Caroline divides her time between practice and teaching advocacy, ethics, conferencing, criminal litigation and evidence and family law as a Senior Lecturer at UWE on the Bar Training Course. Caroline has a background in criminal litigation working almost exclusively in crime from 2005 until 2018 including regulatory crime where Caroline regularly represented companies and individuals at court and appeared on their behalf at inquests.
Caroline was junior counsel in three high profile gross-negligence manslaughter trials including the Bath tipper truck trial in which four people died and the door failure at G Live Guildford which led to the deaths of two members of a well-known sea shanty group.
Caroline’s practice is now largely within family law, in particular in public law cases for local authorities, parents, intervenors and associated family members. Caroline has experience of acting in cases involving sexual and domestic abuse, neglect, and substance misuse and has acted in cases where children have complex medical and mental health needs and/or are victims of CSE.
Caroline also has experience of Special Guardianship Orders in which there is an International element. Caroline has experience of Deprivation of Liberty cases involving children outside of parental control and Court of Protection cases involving at risk adults lacking capacity. Caroline has been instructed in contested adoptions, seeking permission to oppose adoption and the discharge of parental responsibility.
In private family law Caroline is instructed in non-molestation orders, occupation orders, specific issue orders including internal relocation and child arrangement order proceedings. Caroline is often instructed to act on behalf of rule 16 appointed guardians in private law proceedings.
