- Re N – 2014 representing the father where a child was abducted to the Bahamas
- Re M – financial proceedings involving pensions and 2 companies, a short marriage and dissipation of assets
- Re M – complex proceedings involving representation of a mother who was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant with live issues of abduction risks, Hague Convention, and wardship
- Re N – wardship/contact proceedings involving child abduction
- Re K – care proceedings representing a mother where there was evidence of severe mental disorder and harm to a young baby
- Re X – care proceedings representing a travelling family where the care plan was to separate siblings. Protracted evidence from experts and children remained at home
- Re A – public law proceedings representing the child where the allegations against the father included causing severe injuries to the child causing the child to be quadriplegic and blind. Evidence from many experts over 10 days resulting in orders protecting the child. The father was subsequently convicted of GBH and committed suicide in the criminal courtroom
- Re W – fact-finding hearing within public law proceedings representing an uncle who it was alleged has sexually abused his niece; successfully challenged with no findings made against the uncle
- Re B – 3-day hearing and subsequent appeal concerning the enforcement of a personal guarantee which was 7 years old but concerned new substantial debts. Guarantee upheld.
Details
Amanda specialises in all areas of family law and has done throughout her career at the bar. She joined Unity Street Chambers in 2011, having practised in London for over 20 years before that. Clients and instructing solicitors have praised her for her client care skills, her attention to detail in case preparation, her thorough cross-examination, and her straightforward, clear and pragmatic approach.
Public Law
Amanda acts in public law children cases for parents, intervenors, extended family members, children and local authorities. She has experience in handling cases involving sexual abuse, non-accidental injury, domestic abuse, addictions and neglect; cases where there are parental mental health, capacity and learning disability issues. Amanda’s instructions also include where children have special education needs and complex medical or learning needs and in cases involving deprivation of liberty including county lines allegations.
Post care work includes contested adoptions, leave to oppose adoptions, and discharge of care orders.
Private Law Work
Amanda is instructed in all aspects of private law work including complex cases, intractable disputes, cases involving parental alienation and those with international elements including permission to leave the jurisdiction.
Amanda has been involved in cases where wardship orders have been made by the High Court in private law proceedings, involving issues of abduction, child protection and European Arrest Warrants.
Finance
In finance matters, Amanda is regularly instructed on cases involving finances on matrimonial or relationship breakdown, including cases of high and low net worth, multiple property assets, pensions, debts and companies, cohabitation and property ownership disputes, financial applications in relation to children and applications brought under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act.
Public Access
In suitable cases, Amanda undertakes Public Access work. Many family law cases can be suitable for Public Access advice to resolve small or large issues, whether by representation at a court hearing, advice generally, assistance in drafting a letter or even ensuring court forms are completed correctly to make sure applications proceed correctly.
Amanda is currently the joint Head of Chambers together with Toby Huggins.
