Public Access Client
Amanda specialises in all areas of family law and has done throughout her career at the bar. She joined Unity Street Chambers in 2011, having practised in London for over 20 years before that. Clients and instructing solicitors have praised her for her client care skills, her attention to detail in case preparation, her thorough cross-examination, and her straightforward, clear and pragmatic approach.
Amanda acts in public law children cases for parents, intervenors, extended family members, children and local authorities. She has experience in handling cases involving sexual abuse, non-accidental injury, domestic abuse, addictions and neglect; cases where there are parental mental health, capacity and learning disability issues. Amanda’s instructions also include where children have special education needs and complex medical or learning needs and in cases involving deprivation of liberty including county lines allegations.
Post care work includes contested adoptions, leave to oppose adoptions, and discharge of care orders.
Private Law Work
Amanda is instructed in all aspects of private law work including complex cases, intractable disputes, cases involving parental alienation and those with international elements including permission to leave the jurisdiction.
Amanda has been involved in cases where wardship orders have been made by the High Court in private law proceedings, involving issues of abduction, child protection and European Arrest Warrants.
In finance matters, Amanda is regularly instructed on cases involving finances on matrimonial or relationship breakdown, including cases of high and low net worth, multiple property assets, pensions, debts and companies, cohabitation and property ownership disputes, financial applications in relation to children and applications brought under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act.
In suitable cases, Amanda undertakes Public Access work. Many family law cases can be suitable for Public Access advice to resolve small or large issues, whether by representation at a court hearing, advice generally, assistance in drafting a letter or even ensuring court forms are completed correctly to make sure applications proceed correctly.
Amanda is currently the joint Head of Chambers together with Toby Huggins.
